Thursday, 13 January 2011

The Haiti Studio is underway. We will be designing temporary and permanent housing for Haitians, community buildings, as well as master planning. All construction will use PGI's honeycomb product, which is completely made from recycled products. We will construct full scale prototypes, present the work at two Haitian Expos, and 1000-10,000 homes will be constructed.

Take a look at the work in progress - under Courses - Haiti Studio.

The Cal Poly Pomona Department of Architecture and Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. are pleased to announce “Building Enclosure Sustainability Symposium – Integrating Design & Building Practices” (BESS 2011), a two-day, peer-reviewed technical symposium to explore the state-of-the-art in professional and academic approaches and experiences related to integrating design and building practices for sustainable building enclosures.

Building enclosures serve a crucial role in sheltering building occupants from environmental forces and promoting aesthetic and/or bio-climatic expression. Increasingly, design and building professionals are using new tools and techniques to work to integrate design and building practices and teams to create more efficient, high-performing and cost-effective sustainable building enclosures. This symposium promotes integrated practice by bringing together students, faculty, and professionals in the building disciplines to present and discuss their different and shared experiences. The Symposium will be held on the Cal Poly Pomona campus on April 29-30, 2011. For more information, please visit http://www.bessymposium.org/.

The California Polytechnic State University Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) Department of Architecture and Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. (SGH) are pleased to announce the BESS 2010 Symposium: High Performance Building Enclosures - Practical Sustainability. The symposium will be held on the Cal Poly Pomona campus 30 April - 1 May 2010. This symposium will provide industry professionals, academic leaders, and students a forum to share and discuss state-of-the-art tools and techniques in sustainable enclosure design.  By focusing on practical application, we envision that attendees will gain both the necessary knowledge base and the desire to put sustainable building enclosure concepts into practice.

For more information about the symposium, please visit www.sgh.com/bess2010.
